255 - Elisa Bertieri
I am Elisa Bertieri, I am 24 years old, and I am studying at the University of Turku in Baltic Sea Region Studies Master's program. I am at the second and final year of my studies and at the moment I am in Turku studying Finnish and writing my Master's Thesis. I have a Bachelor's degree from Genoa University in Italy in Diplomacy and International Relations. I have always been very interested in Politics and I have also studied it a lot as a part of my Bachelor's; the Green party has always been my party of choice, which makes it quite easy to identify with its program.
I just came back in January from Tartu where I was as an exchange student for six months doing research for my thesis; I have also had another exchange study period in Paris, France. I have had various work experiences in international environment especially in the organization on events like GeMUN, the Model United Nations held in Genoa. From my experience I can say that I am quite skilled in organizing events.
My political interests in the up-coming elections for a major part concentrate on representing the foreign students at the University of Turku, especially from a point of view of a person who would like to integrate in the Finnish society. Specific subjects of interest:
- better possibilities for learning Finnish (intensive courses)
- no admission fees for foreign students, as free high-quality education is the strength of the Finnish academic system
- More job offerings for people with foreign background. Finland has an urgent need for young professionals due to ageing working population
I am also interested in subjects concerning environment, climate change & conservation of energy. Within my studies in Baltic Sea region, I have got familiar with European projects of cross-border cooperation, such as Interreg III B and Tacis that have between other, the aim of safeguarding the environment around the Baltic Sea.
